MEDICAL MARIJUANA IN MAINE
In 1999 Maine voters enacted a medical marijuana law to benefit our people who
have been denied one of natures best resources for use with cancer, glaucoma,
multiple sclerosis, HIV aids, and seizures. Since that time the law has been
revised once to add to the amount a patient may possess by the legislature, and
that is all that has been done to the law since its inception.
The law is vague, hard to interpret for most people and not many people/patients
to this point are benefitting, or utilizing medical marijuana as was intended by
the citizen's vote in 1999 which over 63% of the voting populace enacted. The
law needs to be fixed so that our citizens can get and use medical marijuana
just as was intended by the citizens initiative which we passed. It must be
clearly written and be a workable enactment that protects the citizens and
doctors from harassment and prosecution from law enforcement and district
attorneys who seem to care less about our sick or injured citizens and do not
want the medical marijuana laws to work or be used by the People of Maine who
wanted this law.
Maine Citizens For Medical Marijuana and Maine Vocals are in the process of
launching a citizens initiative to do just that, and the initiative language can
be reviewed and citizens can contact us for input on the actual language over
the next month in order to incorporate all needed language deemed necessary with
regard to patients and care givers. If you would like to view this and submit
concerns or language to be considered to be added to this initiative or would
like to be involved on as paid coordinator or volunteer your services or as a
signature gatherer, contact us at the below informational contact methods.
Remember Maine citizens overwhelmingly supported and passed the medical
marijuana petition in 1999, expecting it to help our citizens, and now going on
9 years now the law has not been effective leaving citizens and doctors alike
afraid to utilize it for fear of the law enforcement community who have done all
they can to stop medical marijuana use in our state regardless of what the
People want in Maine. It is Time for that to change. The Legislature has failed
to act on behalf of our citizens so it’s up to the People again though the
initiative process. We need your help to make this happen as WE THE PEOPLE of
MAINE.
